Many Star Wars fans will say that one of the few things that can be salvaged from The Phantom Menace (1999) was Darth Maul, the Zabrak warrior and apprentice of Darth Sidious who aspired to become a Sith Lord. His brief appearance in that film was enough to earn him affection and popularity among franchise followers, who could continue enjoying the adventures of this villain both in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as in various books and comics. On this occasion, the Sith warrior returns to prominence in a new fan-made movie called Darth Maul: Apprentice - A Star Wars Film.
Darth Maul: Apprentice - A Star Wars Film explores the life of the Zabrak warrior before the events of The Phantom Menace. This is an original story, not based on any book or comic, where under the orders of Darth Sidious, Darth Maul has the mission to eliminate a group of Jedi who landed on a planet after a false signal. Thanks to an impressive choreography, you can enjoy a young Sith facing multiple opponents using his famous double-bladed lightsaber. T7 Production, the team responsible for the project, states that they worked very hard on this film for almost two years.
"We have always thought that Darth Maul should have had more screen time. So we wanted to create a movie just for him with the best lightsaber fights we could make" can be read in the video description. Ben Schamma is the actor who portrays the young Darth Maul, in tribute to the character who was defeated by Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace and who was played by Ray Park (while Peter Serafinowicz provided his voice).
