The so-called "Windows cleaners" fell a bit out of favor after the famous CCleaner installer incident, but a few options still enjoy user support. BleachBit is one of the most important, and we've seen it integrated into many maintenance packages, but also PrivaZer has just reached version 4.0. Its improvements include a new interface, greater speed, and cleaning support for the Chromium edition of Microsoft Edge, among other things.
Many voices insist on leaving Windows with its default settings and letting it handle everything, but if I've learned anything in nearly three decades of experience, it's this: it's not always a good idea to give it the benefit of the doubt. Installing and uninstalling software, adding multiple hotfixes and new drivers, accumulated temporary files, and disks filling with junk. Over time, Windows loses performance, but if we apply a good dose of preventive maintenance, its effects will be relatively minor.
Now, we can always follow the manual route, but using "one-click" cleaners and maintenance tools can simplify the process as long as we keep a close eye on what they do. Many developers fall into the placebo effect trap and offer meaningless features, but there are other elements that definitely deserve our attention. That brings us to PrivaZer, which has just published version 4.0.
Absolute Cleaning of Your System
What's new? First, PrivaZer 4.0 presents a new interface, although the changes are not radical compared to previous builds. It also includes cleaning support for the Chromium variant of Microsoft Edge, which seems to be gaining some traction. The rest of its optimizations focus on cleaning methods, especially at the $Logfile, $MFT, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome levels. Finally, PrivaZer 4.0 brings improvements in speed. Some of its operations are slow, but it was worse before.
That said, personally I think it's not worth performing a "complete cleaning". It's better to use a custom configuration, disabling the "Residual file traces" options (can take too long on a slow drive) and "Memory" (restarting the computer should be enough). Download a copy of the portable build and try it. It barely generates a .ini file on the drive, and it has a perfect score on VirusTotal.
