“It would be great if I could get someone to pay me for playing video games.” Who hasn't thought that at some point? It's a difficult goal but not impossible to achieve, especially now that Razer will “pay” you to play with Razer Cortex.
The Razer company has just announced its “paid to play” initiative, a program that is almost exactly what it sounds like. Razer will reward gamers for playing their favorite games, but those gamers won't be earning cash but rather zVault points from Razer Cortex, the company's new digital currency platform. Players can earn digital currencies by playing from Razer Cortex, a desktop software designed to adjust system performance, manage game libraries, and stream games on sites like Twitch and YouTube. The paid to play campaign will reward players with three zSilver for each minute played.
These zVault points have no legal tender, but they are not useless either. zSilver points can be redeemed for discounts or products from the Razer store (such as the mechanical keyboard), and the company says it hopes to add things like movie tickets or coffee coupons (presumably for a popular coffee chain) in the future. However, earning rewards will be a long-term effort: players have a limit of 900 points per day. The payment system is not compatible with all games, although it clearly has a specific market: competitive multiplayer titles like Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and League of Legends are among the games confirmed to be part of the program.
These are the types of games that dedicated fans play day after day. Therefore, it also makes sense that to get the 900 daily zSilver points, one would have to play at least five hours, being the ideal excuse to, for example, learn to play with that new Overwatch character. Available for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10, you can download the Razer Cortex app for free and start playing to earn zVault points.
