A fairly common problem for users is the insistence of certain services on processing links using a specific search engine. In fact, this is very frequent in recent versions of Windows, which want to send everything through Edge or Bing. Forcing a browser change requires other tools, but if you wish to redirect websites in a simple way, the Redirector extension has what you need.

I imagine this has happened to you more than once. A program, a help section, or even a shortcut tries to get information from the Web using a service you don't like. The most common case is Bing: Windows will not hesitate to open, search, or query everything through Microsoft's engine, something predictable given Redmond's internal policy. However, there is an alternative for the main browsers. The extension is named Redirector, and it works very well.

Redirector allows you to configure rules that automatically redirect websites. One of the simplest examples is the classic "Bing-to-Google": In the Description field we assign a name, in Example URL we place the origin address, Include Pattern lets us configure advanced patterns (but it's enough to put the origin URL), and Redirect to receives the destination address. Once the rule is saved, any attempt to visit bing.com will open google.com instead.

But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Redirector accepts much more complex parameters, and there are excellent examples on its GitHub profile. "De-mobilizer" is one of the most interesting, since it converts all links from mobile pages to their desktop versions. "YouTube Shorts to YouTube" is another excellent rule that sends YouTube Shorts to the conventional player, and the rest take advantage of the Bangs of DuckDuckGo.

Redirector is a creation of Einar Egilsson, who unfortunately passed away in 2022, but the community has taken charge of maintaining the extension, and it works both in current versions of Firefox and in the most important flavors of Chromium.
