A forecast reported on October 4 put the best-case wait for Siri AI on iPhone and iPad in the European Union at about five months, with a longer delay possible. That is a forecast, not an Apple release schedule. In June, Apple said it had no timeline for those platforms.
Five months is a best-case forecast
The estimate concerns Siri AI on iPhone and iPad in the EU. It does not set a launch date or guarantee that the wait will end after five months.
The comparison behind the estimate is Apple Intelligence’s earlier rollout: it launched in other markets in October 2024 and reached the EU in late March 2025. That history offers context for the forecast, but it does not establish Siri AI’s schedule. For a closer look at the broader feature set, see our Apple Intelligence explainer.
What Apple said about EU iPhones and iPads
On June 8, Apple said Siri AI would not ship in the EU with iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 and that it had no timeline for those platforms. The company attributed the delay to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the EU law at the center of the dispute over interoperability—how services and platforms work with one another. Apple’s announcement also described a proposal called Trusted System Agent, an intermediary intended to let competing assistants access Siri AI capabilities. Apple said it proposed a gradual rollout over 18 months and that the Commission did not accept its solutions.
Apple’s statement named several affected capabilities, including a dedicated conversation-history app, expanded Visual Intelligence, integrated writing tools and Siri mode in Camera on iOS. It also listed other features announced at WWDC26.
Apple and the Commission describe the DMA dispute differently
On June 9, the European Commission said the DMA does not prohibit Apple from launching new products. The Commission also said Apple had not developed an interoperability solution that met EU privacy and security standards. Its account of Apple’s request described an exemption from interoperability obligations for at least 18 months—a different characterization from Apple’s proposed gradual implementation plan. The Commission’s public briefing set out its position.
The two parties thus describe both the proposed arrangement and responsibility for the delayed iPhone and iPad rollout differently. Apple says regulators did not accept its proposed solutions; the Commission says Apple had not developed a compliant solution.
The earlier Apple Intelligence rollout behind the comparison
Apple Intelligence launched in other markets in October 2024 and became available in the EU in late March 2025. The roughly five-month gap is the historical comparison cited alongside the Siri AI forecast, not a schedule for the newer features.
Platforms and features in Apple’s announcement
Apple said EU users would be able to access Siri AI on macOS 27 and visionOS 27. It said the feature would not be available on watchOS 27 because it requires a paired iPhone with Siri AI. The announcement focused on the separate iPhone and iPad rollout; for the beta capabilities discussed in our earlier coverage, see Siri AI’s beta features.
A ChatGPT extension used with Apple Intelligence is also distinct from Siri AI’s native system integration; it does not provide the same feature set. Apple explains the extension in its iPhone support guide.
