A Notebookcheck report published October 15, 2026, describes phone-connection, app-compatibility and display problems in tests of the Asus Googlebook 14 and HP Googlebook 14c. PCMag reviewer Iyaz Akhtar also reported a failed 30 GB file copy on the Asus; one Lenovo Googlebook 15 owner described heavy memory use and stuttering under a specific workload. These are findings tied to particular reviews and one owner’s experience, not a single platform-wide result. Notebookcheck’s report was published on October 15; it does not give the date of its tests.
Phone connections and Android apps
Notebookcheck said phone connectivity required Android 17, but its attempt to connect a qualifying phone to the Asus Googlebook 14 failed. The report does not identify the phone model. It also found some apps missing from Google Play Store or marked incompatible when installation was attempted through another store. Minecraft and Fortnite were among the examples it named.
Notebookcheck found no processor-related difference in the app restrictions it encountered between the tested Intel- and Snapdragon-based models. Its findings describe those tests; they do not establish compatibility for every app or device. NeoTeo’s earlier coverage of Googlebook’s Android integration provides background on the platform’s phone features.
Display controls and HDR playback
Neither of the two devices Notebookcheck tested offered sRGB/P3 color-space switching or panel calibration. That matters if you need to adjust a screen for color-critical work. The outlet also reported that the HP Googlebook 14c failed to play HDR content and suspected a software issue.
The 30 GB transfer test
In PCMag’s review, Akhtar said the Asus Googlebook 14’s native Files app repeatedly failed while copying 30 GB from Google Drive. Solid Explorer completed the transfer in his test. That gives readers handling large files a specific alternative to the built-in file manager in this reported case. PCMag’s video review covers the test.
One Lenovo owner’s workload
One owner of a 16 GB Lenovo Googlebook 15 reported more than 5 GB of memory in use after a clean boot. With four browser tabs and two apps open, the owner reported 10–12 GB in use, along with stuttering while navigating the interface and dropped frames during 4K YouTube playback. The same owner described raised-looking OLED blacks and said they returned the laptop. These are individual observations, not standardized benchmark results. The owner’s account gives the measurements and workload.
