SanDisk took part in Mobile World Congress 2015 with several products, including a 200GB microSD card. Working in such a compact format, we all ask ourselves what its real limit will be, but it doesn't seem to be near. SanDisk has just announced a new 400GB microSD card that, besides being faster, will have a lower price compared to the previous generation.
IFA 2017 is in full swing, and one of the companies present there is SanDisk. The Western Digital subsidiary hasn't lost ground in the market thanks to affordable products like its solid-state drives, but what brings us here today is its progress with memory cards. Last year the company presented the fastest microSD card in the world, and a prototype SD card that holds a terabyte. In general, SanDisk takes two years to double the capacity of its memories, and for that reason we aren't that surprised to see its brand new 400GB microSD memory.
The most notable thing is that SanDisk reached the 400GB mark without sacrificing performance. The new card can transfer between 90 and 100 megabytes per second, or 1,200 photos per minute. It also includes the A1 speed certification, which greatly improves app execution (a historical weak point of many memories). But those 400GB represent a maximum of 40 hours of Full HD video. This jump in capacity will certainly be appreciated by drone users and compact cameras like those sold by GoPro, although it's most likely necessary to verify compatibility first, or update the device's firmware.
The new SanDisk memory will be available through the official website and its resellers around the world, with an official price of $249. This is a significant reduction compared to the 200GB model (which at its debut cost $400), and yet SanDisk confirmed that it maintains its ten-year warranty on all models.
