More than six years have passed since its original release, and fans simply won't let it go. P.T., the interactive trailer developed by Hideo Kojima for the canceled Silent Hills, keeps being resurrected and adapted despite Konami's attempts to block its distribution. This time, Italian developer Andrea Gori decided to transform P.T. into a standalone mod for GZDOOM, and although it's not a 1:1 reproduction, its disturbing essence remains intact.

The Unkillable Demo

Today we can say with some certainty that P.T. is much more than the interactive demo of a game that will never see the light of day, or at least not under Konami's wing. Several PlayStation 4 consoles with the game preinstalled appeared on eBay (and then disappeared) averaging $1,000. Many players demand the possibility to transfer and run its content on the PlayStation 5 (it used to be possible, now it's not), but Sony has already confirmed that it will not be possible "by decision of the editor". And in the past we've seen some very high-quality ports... that also vanished into thin air.

GZ PT: A Standalone Mod

Of course, the wheel keeps turning, and as long as there is an enthusiast interested in P.T., mods and conversions will continue to emerge on the Web. Today it's GZ PT's turn, courtesy of Andrea Gori alias "Batandy", known for the series The Golden Souls (a retro adventure for Doom) and the fangame Castlevania: Simon's Destiny. In essence, GZ PT is a standalone mod for GZDOOM, with the advantage that we don't need any files from the original Doom. With downloading a copy of GZDOOM and placing the GZPT.ipk3 file inside its folder is more than enough.

Batandy admits that it is not a 1:1 remake (something logical considering technical limitations), but the central sequences of the demo were recreated to perfection, and the sound is not far behind. Furthermore, the 'low-res' appearance does not work against the smallest details (like the cockroaches), and if you're wondering about the 'fetus'... yes, it's there. If we do a little memory, Kojima said that the graphics of the original P.T. were reduced to convey the idea that its creator had been an indie studio, and from a certain point of view, GZ PT could qualify as a 'demake', but it still works wonderfully.

Now, this is not the first time that the universe of Silent Hill has crossed swords with Doom. Another solid example of a mod is Soundless Mound, with an impressive atmosphere (if we leave aside the Imps), and it also works with GZDOOM. In other words, you have your hands full. Personally, I would start with GZ PT, before Konami suffers an anxiety attack...
