The so-called Internet of Things proposes adding a certain degree of connectivity and intelligence to nearly every accessory in a home, but there are cases where it doesn't seem like the brightest idea of all. That’s how we arrive at Smarttress, a smart mattress capable of detecting inappropriate use, or rather, when your partner is cheating on you with someone else.

Smarttress: A Smart Mattress to Find Out If Your Partner Is Cheating

How logical is it to digitally interact with the things in our home? Some examples offer considerable advantages, such as turning off the air conditioning with a text message, programming the coffee maker so the delicious fluid is ready at the exact moment, or adjusting the thermostat before arriving and taking a fight. But not a few question the reasoning behind the Internet of Things. In the first place, we know it is fundamentally insecure if not configured correctly, and in the second place, do we really want to have control of everything? If we are going to try to answer that question, let's first take a close look at Smarttress, a smart mattress designed with a very particular goal.

That's right: The proposal of Smarttress is to detect and report the moment your partner is being unfaithful to you. After the dramatic music in the video and the fact of highlighting Spain as one of the countries with the highest percentage of infidelity in the world (eighth place, for those who want to know), Smarttress promises that all that doubt will be left in the past thanks to its ability to detect vibrations and pulses associated with traditional coitus. The telemetry is sent to your smartphone through an app compatible with iOS and Android, but apparently that's not all, since its algorithm can differentiate things like the cat or dog jumping onto the bed.

Smarttress still has no price or availability date, which momentarily makes me think of an April Fools' Day joke... but December 28 is far off on the calendar. Of course, the problem isn't the technology itself, because pressure and motion sensors are nothing new. In reality, the problems are several. To begin with, no one who considers themselves clever is going to be unfaithful under the same roof they share with their partner, because the possibility of an error is too great. Then, I imagine dog owners know what it's like to have an adorable fluffy beast jumping and running in circles on the mattress for ten minutes until it's exhausted. And to close, there are always 7 and 8-year-old kids sneaking into their parents' room and starting a merciless pillow fight “only because they can't be there.” Besides, who needs a mattress to destroy relationships? Facebook and WhatsApp do an excellent job...
