Snap is pushing SPECS beyond the usual smart-glasses pitch. The standalone augmented-reality glasses are being positioned as a platform for workplace AI, navigation, translation, entertainment and context-aware assistance—but their $2,195 US starting price, substantial frame and planned fall 2026 shipping make them an early-adopter product rather than an everyday replacement for ordinary glasses.

The enterprise direction became clearer with reported work involving Salesforce, Amazon Web Services and Nvidia. Salesforce is bringing Agentforce workflows to SPECS so workers can identify what they are viewing, create a service case, retrieve information and update workflows without switching to another screen. Snap is also working to connect the glasses with Amazon Quick, while Nvidia is exploring its XR AI stack for spatial understanding and real-time guidance.

Snap wants SPECS to become a work tool

Hands-on demonstrations show SPECS navigation, translation, hand tracking, AI assistance and the charging case.

The enterprise integrations point to the central idea behind SPECS: information should appear in the wearer’s field of view while their hands and attention remain available for the task at hand.

The glasses are designed to keep the real environment visible through a see-through waveguide display. That makes the same hardware useful for a service technician following guidance, a worker consulting information about an object, or a team using a shared digital workspace. The announced enterprise experiences are still planned integrations, not a guarantee that every workflow will be available at launch.

SPECS also support a digital whiteboard, screen casting, calls, music, video streaming and Lens-based experiences. Other announced or demonstrated ideas include sports overlays, multiplayer games, book highlighting, meditation tools, DJ controls and 3D product visualization.

What are Snap SPECS, and when will they ship?

SPECS are standalone AR glasses. Snap says they do not need a tether or an external computing puck, so the processing hardware, display and controls are built into the glasses and their charging system.

The display uses a see-through waveguide and proprietary liquid-crystal-on-silicon technology. It offers a 51-degree field of view and 16 million colors. Snap describes the visual area as comparable to a 24-inch desktop monitor or a 115-inch cinema screen viewed from about 10 feet away.

The glasses come in two frame sizes:

  • 47 mm Narrow Fit: 132 g
  • 52 mm Wide Fit: 136 g

Both versions use a Swiss TR90 polymer frame. Controls include voice commands, gestures, hand tracking and physical controls on the frame. Open-ear stereo speakers handle audio, while six MEMS microphones support voice interaction and calls.

Snap expects initial SPECS shipping in fall 2026 in the United States, the United Kingdom and France. The US starting price is $2,195, and pre-orders require a refundable $200 deposit.

Translation, navigation and AR in front of your eyes

The most immediate use cases are the ones that benefit from leaving your phone in your pocket. SPECS can place navigation directions, menus and other digital interfaces in the wearer’s view while preserving visibility of the surrounding environment.

Translation is another practical example. Demonstrated experiences include real-time language translation and tools that can translate reviews or currency information while traveling. The platform also supports entertainment and collaborative experiences, including games, sports coaching overlays and themed visual effects.

The software runs through Snap OS and Lens experiences. Snap says it shipped 10 Snap OS updates and more than 40 new features and APIs during the previous year and a half, giving developers a platform for building experiences specifically for the glasses.

That platform approach is important because AR content remains tied to the hardware and software ecosystem that supports it. An experience built for SPECS is not automatically available on other smart glasses, whose SDKs and content models can differ.

Specs Intelligence: an AI that tries to anticipate the next step

Specs Intelligence is Snap’s context-aware AI service for SPECS, iPhone and Mac. It connects information from apps and tools that the user chooses to link, then uses that context to help with questions, travel planning, hotel discovery and other tasks.

Snap describes the system as anticipatory AI. In practical terms, it is intended to help draft replies, organize details, track progress and surface useful information without requiring a separate app for every small request. Snap’s product description says the service requires user approval before taking action.

That cross-device design gives Specs Intelligence a broader role than a voice assistant built only into the glasses. The glasses provide the immediate interface, while the iPhone and Mac are part of the same connected service. The trade-off is that permissions and connected apps become central to the experience.

Snap says an LED indicates when the cameras are recording. The company also says SPECS do not use facial recognition to identify people and do not record the world merely to understand it.

The practical problem: big, expensive glasses

Hands-on footage demonstrates the glasses’ chunky frame, waveguide display, hand controls, charging case and prescription inserts.

The hardware packs a lot into a frame that still has to sit on someone’s face. At 132–136 g, SPECS are visibly substantial, with broad temples and large side housings. Short hands-on sessions found them usable, but the weight and bulk were noticeable.

The waveguide display also has a visible compromise: hands-on demonstrations showed rainbow-like artifacts. That does not erase the value of a see-through AR display, but it matters when judging SPECS as an everyday wearable rather than a technical showcase.

Prescription users are not left out. SPECS support single-vision prescription inserts from −8 to +2 diopters through a certified third-party partner. The inserts attach to the frame separately from the standard package.

Battery life is rated at up to four hours of mixed use. The charging case provides four additional charges, for up to 20 hours of mixed use in total. The glasses also support a magnetic five-pin charging interface and a USB-C streaming cable for connection to a PC, phone or gaming console.

Price, pre-order and availability

For US buyers, the starting figure is straightforward: $2,195 for the standard SPECS configuration, plus a refundable $200 deposit to pre-order. Snap expects the first shipments in fall 2026.

A Wi-Fi + Cellular configuration is also planned, using a 5G-capable charging case. The cellular option adds a different connectivity setup, while the standard configuration relies on Wi-Fi; Bluetooth supports calls and notifications.

That combination of price, physical size and still-developing software ecosystem defines SPECS’ current position. Snap is not presenting them as inexpensive camera glasses. It is building a standalone AR platform whose strongest case may be the combination of a see-through display, context-aware AI and workplace integrations.
