Judging a competition like the Luminar Bug Photography Awards is no easy task. We know well that insects and other tiny creatures can be a source of endless beauty, but with more than five thousand images from around the world, picking the winners in each category would be a titanic challenge. The 2020 edition has wrapped up, and the winning entries are, in a word, wonderful.
Over 800 photographers took part in the 2020 edition of the Luminar Bug Photography Awards, which awarded a grand prize of £23,000. First place went to Mofeed Abu Shalwa, a photographer from Saudi Arabia, for his image of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus, the red palm weevil, a creature considered both a pest and a culinary delicacy in different regions.
