Want to shake off the bad taste left by the Flashback remake? Then you're in luck, because its creator, Paul Cuisset, is about to release a new cinematic adventure game called Subject 13.
Flashback: The Quest for Identity is a classic platformer that debuted on the Commodore Amiga in 1992 and received several remasters over more than two decades (though the most recent version from 2013 was a disaster). But the good news is that its creator will launch his new game, Subject 13 this week. The title that represents Paul Cuisset's return to the cinematic adventure genre will put us in the shoes of Franklin Fargo, a lonely physics professor who one day wakes up in an abandoned underground laboratory, with no contact with the outside world other than a voice that calls him Subject 13.
Through a third-person view, you control Fargo through different locations, exploring, interacting, collecting, and manipulating objects in a 3D environment. Your task is to escape the facility, and to do so you'll have to solve the trials imposed by the mysterious voice that will guide you through the scenarios. A multitude of puzzles and mechanisms await you throughout the game, and it will take all your ingenuity to solve them to discover the truth that awaits in the story of Subject 13.
To carry out this project, Cuisset ran a crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter, where the generosity of fans yielded more than $43,000, with which the developer, along with the collaboration of the studio Microids, which already has experience in adventure games with classics like Syberia and Amerzone, worked on the development of the title. Subject 13 is being developed by Paul Cuisset together with Microids and will be available on Windows and Mac starting May 28, 2015. The game will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the coming months.
