What Apple announced for the home

Apple HomeView is a 7-inch display in tabletop and wall-mounted designs. Apple says it can recognize up to six people and personalize the experience for each; setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad. The tabletop design has a speaker base, while the wall-mounted version does not.

HomePod mini 2 uses Apple’s S10 chip and comes in five colors: pink, green, blue, white, and midnight. Apple TV 4K (4th generation) uses the A19 chip and includes a dedicated AV1 decoder. Apple says its CPU performance is up to 50% faster and its GPU performance up to 2× faster than the previous generation.

Apple Home Collection adds smart-home accessories developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. WIRED reports the lineup includes cameras, a video doorbell, a smart deadbolt, thermostats, and sensors. Apple schedules the collection’s rollout to begin in December, with select accessories planned for early 2027. (Apple’s HomePod mini 2 announcement)

Siri AI has different requirements on each device

Apple says Siri AI is planned for HomePod mini 2 through a future software update. On HomeView, Siri AI is in beta in software version 27.2; Apple also describes Siri AI on Apple TV 4K as beta.

For personal-context requests on HomeView, Apple requires a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with current software, Siri AI enabled, and a supported language. Apple says general-knowledge queries and natural conversations may be available without that paired device, subject to region and language. HomeView’s multiuser support also requires a compatible iPhone or iPad.

Apple says HomeView is not for sale in the European Union because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS there.

Four-speaker surround requires specific HomePod models

Apple’s four-speaker setup requires Apple TV 4K (4th generation) and either four HomePod mini 2 speakers or four HomePod (2nd generation) speakers. The front pair and rear pair must each use matching models, and the setup requires the latest operating-system software. (Apple’s Apple TV 4K announcement)
