Teacher and iPad user Teddy Svoronos reported that, during an AirPlay presentation on iPadOS 27, tapping outside the presenting app while multiple windows were open could put the iPad’s full screen on the external display. That could expose private notes or poll results meant to stay hidden from an audience. Svoronos said he observed the behavior with Stage Manager both on and off.

How other iPad windows could reach the display

AirPlay sends the iPad’s presentation to an external screen. In Svoronos’s account, the risk arose when he tapped a window outside the app presenting: instead of keeping the presentation on the display, the most recently tapped app could take over and show the broader iPad screen.

For a teacher, that could mean students see notes about whom to call on or poll results that have not yet been shared. Other windows appearing during a lesson could also interrupt what the class is viewing.

What Svoronos reported in three presentation apps

Svoronos described different ways to return to a presentation after another window took over:

  • Goodnotes: Tapping its window again brought back presenter view.
  • Keynote: Switching away ended the presentation.
  • PowerPoint: He had to restart the presentation to continue.

These are outcomes from Svoronos’s account. He did not specify the app versions, so they do not establish how every version behaves.

Why the cause remains unsettled

Svoronos contrasted the reported iPadOS 27 behavior with iPadOS 26, where he said a user could swipe up and select a compatible app in the Dock to give it control of the external display. In his account, iPadOS 27 instead gave control to the last app tapped.

A Reddit user separately described a similar failure on an iPadOS 27 Release Candidate in a post dated September 10, 2026. Commenters offered conflicting explanations: one said Goodnotes 7.1.27 and earlier worked as expected on two iPads, while Goodnotes 7.1.28 did not; another relayed that Goodnotes had said no Apple API preserved the previous behavior. Those anecdotes leave open whether the reported behavior involved iPadOS, an app version, or their interaction.

On October 19, 2026, Svoronos said the behavior persisted in the latest betas and that he had filed feedback with Apple under reference FB23615646. For broader release context, NeoTeo’s earlier overview of iPadOS 27’s availability and features covers the update beyond this presentation issue.
