It is always pleasant to listen to a narrator or storyteller. If you like having stories narrated, having a book read to you, or having an assistant to help with your tasks, with Speakd you can listen to all or part of the text of any Google Docs document with a perfect voice. Simply click the play button to hear the narrator, and you can also pause or stop the voice.
A great feature of the platform is that the document tab does not need to be active to hear the voice; you can switch tabs or minimize the browser and the narrator will continue the story while you do another task.
How to use the Google Docs text-to-speech add-on?
The first thing you need to do is install the add-on in your web browser. The extension will ask for the usual permissions. At this point, you will need to open a Google Docs document. From the top menu, go to “Add-ons”, select “Speakd, give voice to your writings” and click on “Start”. At this moment, you will see the add-on interface on the right side.
Now you can click directly on “Play” so that the extension reads the document in Spanish with a perfect voice, or you can select part of the text so that the tool only reads the colored part. Below the speaker symbol, you will find a bar where the words being narrated are shown.
To play the voice in the background, you don’t have to do anything at all; just click “Play” and then you can do any other task without the narration being interrupted.
Speakd is a very good add-on for Google Docs to read text with a perfect and fluid voice. In our tests we have not found any errors, but we miss the possibility of adjusting the reading speed or changing the narrator.
