The pace of web updates is overwhelming. Switching from tab to tab, we absorb as much information as we forget. It's that our memory is like a cache. As new information comes in, it must make room, pushing out old information. Thus, it's very easy to overlook things that might have interested us, or to put off something that deserves our full attention for a more opportune moment (only to forget it completely later!). That's why I love lists so much (like the ones I make every week in Recommended Links). To separate the wheat from the chaff and save from the whirlwind what I consider interesting and deserving of being highlighted, at least for a few more seconds.

This selection stems from my horrible compulsion to grasp the ephemeral. These are the best animated shorts of 2017 so far, and I believe they should be enjoyed by as many people as possible before they enter that dimension we call "oblivion". For the most part, they are silent shorts, without foreign languages, so no one is left out of having a good time.

There's something for everyone. Hand-drawn animations, computer-generated ones, stop-motion shorts, some musicals, and other more experimental pieces. So you know what to do. Grab a coffee, get comfortable, and leave Netflix alone for a while — these works are well worth it. Enjoy!
