Originally published by Gold Key in 1968, UFO Flying Saucers was a comic book magazine centered on the flying saucers craze of the era. Each issue contained a series of comics telling of a close encounter with aliens, who were portrayed as small green men armed with laser ray guns, invading Earth aboard enormous spaceships, either to kidnap poor humans or wipe them out once and for all.
The most captivating thing about this magazine was that its comics were based on accounts of real UFO sightings and close encounters of the third kind. In an era when the internet did not yet exist to verify the authenticity of those accounts, it was normal to end up believing those stories, and that is where part of the magic of UFO Flying Saucers lies. The magazine had a total of twenty-five issues, first as UFO Flying Saucers (#1 – #13) between 1968 and 1977 and then under the name UFO & Outer Space (#14 – #25) between 1978 and 1980.
