E3 2016 has come to an end, and we're rounding up the best games from each press conference. With plenty of sequels and fresh IPs revealed, it's time to settle in and enjoy our picks for the best games of E3 2016.
Dead Rising 4
If zombies are your thing, then this is the game for you. Dead Rising 4 marks the return of Frank West, who once again finds himself trapped in a shopping mall and its surroundings, with thousands of hungry zombies. The action now takes place in a Christmas setting, with a wide variety of weapons and vehicles to fight your way through the hordes. Developed by Capcom Vancouver, the game will be available on Windows 10 and Xbox One. It doesn't have a concrete release date yet, but it's expected to launch during the 2016 holiday season.
Death Stranding
When Hideo Kojima ended his contract with Konami at the end of last year, the question on everyone's mind was: what will he do next? Death Stranding is the answer. There's not much to say except for what the trailer shows. The game stars actor Norman Reedus, who wakes up naked, with a scar on his body, on the shore of a beach next to a baby and some mysterious figures in the distance. Developed by Kojima Productions, it will be available on Windows and PlayStation 4. For now, there's no concrete release date.
Detroit: Become Human
David Cage gave us a great cinematic experience with Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. Detroit: Become Human maintains the same concept, with a story revolving around several characters. Among them are androids like Kara, who escaped from the factory where they were created to explore their newfound ability to feel, and Connor, an android whose job is to hunt his own kind. Characters can survive or perish based on the choices you make in the game. Developed by Quantic Dream, it will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4. There's no concrete release date as of yet.
Gears of War 4
Twenty-five years have passed since the destruction of all the Imulsion on the planet Sera, as well as the Locust and the Lambent. Unfortunately, this also eliminated the use of fossil fuels, forcing humanity to adapt new ways of survival. Gears of War 4 focuses on Marcus Fenix's son, JD Fenix, who along with his friends Delmont 'Del' Walker and Kait Diaz must face a new threat to humanity's survival. The demo shown highlighted cooperative play and new weapons, such as the Buzzkill, which fires ricocheting saw blades. Developed by The Coalition, it will be available on Xbox One and Windows starting October 11, 2016.
God of War
Is it a sequel to God of War III or a reboot of the franchise? We don't know for sure, but this God of War abandons Greek mythology to move to the world of Norse gods and monsters. The trailer shown during Sony's conference revealed some gameplay, with Kratos returning as the protagonist, accompanied by his son Charlie. During the video sequence, Kratos acts as mentor and protector to his son, teaching him to hunt, before ending up facing a monster. In combat, Kratos no longer uses his double-chain blades, but instead a magical war axe with elemental abilities. Developed by Santa Monica Studio, it will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4. There's no concrete release date yet.
Prey
Prey 2? No, that title was canceled. But instead, Bethesda presents us with Prey, a reimagining of the original game released in 2006. The story takes place aboard the space station Talos 1 in the year 2032, where we meet Morgan Yu, a subject undergoing a series of morally dubious experiments to improve the human race. Morgan seems to be living a Groundhog Day version in space, as he always wakes up on the same day until everything changes when aliens invade the station. Now it's up to you to uncover the secrets hidden in the depths of that mysterious place. Developed by Arkane Studios, it will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game doesn't have a concrete release date, but it's expected to launch during 2017.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole
Just as South Park: The Stick of Truth immersed us in a fantasy war inspired by role-playing games, South Park: The Fractured but Whole does the same but with the superhero theme that's so popular in theaters right now. Once again you control the new kid, joining the children of South Park, who now find themselves in the middle of a Civil War. The tutorial video shows superhero creation, divided into respective classes and abilities, as well as part of the combat that now incorporates strategy and mobility elements on the battlefield. Developed by Ubisoft San Francisco along with South Park Digital Studios, it will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting December 6, 2016.
The Last Guardian
After numerous delays and other complications, such as the departure of Ueda and other members of Team ICO from Sony, The Last Guardian is finally coming out (if nothing gets in the way) this year. The story introduces us to a boy who befriends a giant creature named Trico, and they must work together to evade the guards who are after them. What was striking about the video shown was the slight redesign, noticeable in the boy protagonist's face. Let's hope these changes don't become a problem in the future and cause yet another delay. Developed by genDESIGN, it will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4 starting October 25, 2016.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Link awakens from a deep sleep and finds himself in a ruined Hyrule. He soon learns that this was caused by a great evil known as Calamity Ganon, who is sealed inside Hyrule Castle. Now Link must go after him and defeat him before he breaks free and destroys the world. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the first game in the franchise to be developed in high definition, and it also features an open world similar to other fantasy games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Developed by Nintendo, it will be available on Wii U and NX. The game doesn't have a concrete release date, but it's expected to launch during 2017.
Watch Dogs 2
The sequel to Watch Dogs takes place in a fictional version of San Francisco. The protagonist is Marcus Holloway, a hacker who works with the hacker group DedSec to bring down ctOS 2.0, the city's surveillance system. Like its predecessor, Watch Dogs 2 is an action-adventure game with stealth elements within an open world. Marcus has acrobatic skills and can perform parkour moves to traverse the city. But the most important thing is the hacking system, which allows you to manipulate vehicles and phones, as well as disrupt traffic by altering cars and traffic lights. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, it will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting November 15, 2016.
