Do you feel like you're being watched? You're not alone, believe me. Cultural barriers and borders don't matter. It's a primal, universal sensation. You don't know what it is, but your gut screams that there's "something" there watching you. A reflection, the edge of a mirror, the corner of your eye… a window. Yes, any window. Paranoia? Stress? Why do you think they're "your thoughts"? What if the culprit is… that thing watching you? People have given it many names, but for the Foundation, it's SCP-965.

What is SCP-965?

SCP-965 was detected and extracted from a house where all its residents had trouble sleeping. Honestly, I don't know how the agents managed to recognize an anomaly among so many cases of insomnia (we all have sleep problems, right?), but the point is they did it… and there it is, "contained" in a ready-to-use window with six glass panels measuring 30 by 15. Nearby, two other windows are kept as backup, and its area always has very strong light sources, no less than 130 candelas.

You see, SCP-965 doesn't move on its own; it manifests in another window when the original containing it is destroyed. Light is necessary because it only appears when there are less than 5 candelas on the "outside" of the window, regardless of illumination on the "inside". More than one here has tried to see SCP-965 "from the other side", but it never changes direction, and always looks toward what it considers the "interior".

Effects on Subjects

Nerves, discomfort, paranoia. These are the first symptoms of being under SCP-965's gaze. Covering the window with a curtain does no good. True to its nature, the Foundation decided to evaluate the effect of SCP-965. It forced a handful of Class D to sleep next to a window with SCP-965 watching. They all said the same: horrible dreams. Persecutions, attacks, pure torment, though never physical.

And it gets worse. When the same subject repeats this process, accumulating several sleep cycles… SCP-965 begins to smile. All those poor devils who reached that point reported acid reflux, abdominal pain, vomiting, and bloody discharges. Medical studies revealed a series of ulcers and low-level hemorrhages throughout the gastrointestinal tract. The hypothesis of the geniuses here is that SCP-965 accelerates the body's reactions to such high levels of fear and stress. But others are not so convinced. They believe SCP-965 kills them from the inside. A cut here, a perforation there… slowly.

Residual Effects

As if that weren't enough, there is a certain residual effect after being exposed to SCP-965 at those levels. Some still encounter it in their dreams, and others in their peripheral vision while awake. Paranoia never completely leaves them, as does the feeling of being watched. One more thing, before you go on your way: SCP-965 seems to be aware of what it does. It looks disappointed if it appears in an empty room, and its expression becomes hostile if it recognizes someone who destroyed its window before. I just hope it doesn't learn to move on its own. Now rest… if you can.
