Have you ever watched your pets dream? I'm sure you have watched them dream at some point. Dogs bark, paddle their legs as if they were running. Cats twitch their tails and extend claws, caught in a hunting dream. But what about more exotic animals? Can they dream like mammals do? Take the case of octopuses. The famous series Nature broadcast on PBS just shared what could well be an octopus dream, with extraordinary changes in their colors and camouflage patterns.

One of the most surprising details about octopuses is that they live very short lives. In some cases, their cycle lasts no more than six months, while the giant octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini) reaches five years. This is offset by an impressive reproduction rate. Some females lay hundreds of thousands of eggs, a number not to be taken lightly, but their "motherhood" tends to be relatively brief, and there is no care after hatching.
The Intelligence of Octopuses
Add to that the fact that they are not clumsy. Their brains are enormous and highly developed compared to other invertebrates. They have been seen stealing (crab) bait from lobster traps, climbing onto fishing boats and hiding in containers to take advantage of the catch, and escaping from their aquariums through very narrow gaps. A short life, a great intelligence. If we want to learn something about octopuses, we must do it quickly, and celebrate every moment with them. So... what if we watch them dream?
A Dream in Color
To be honest, we are not 100 percent sure about it, but its changes... striking, dramatic, intense. The narrator imagines her (yes, it's a female) visualizing a crab and waiting hidden for the exact moment. Suddenly, her tone becomes very dark, something octopuses do when they leave the bottom. The color and patterns of its skin change again. Perhaps she has already caught that succulent crab and seeks to go unnoticed to enjoy her dinner.
