I was going to put a photo of one of her cakes in the next Visual Dump, but after seeing her entire body of work, I thought the art of Dorothy Klerck deserved its own gallery. Dorothy, from Cape Town, South Africa, is no ordinary pastry chef; she is an art graduate whose mission is to create the biggest and most mind-blowing cakes in the world to raise awareness about animal conservation in her homeland.
It all began for Dorothy while she was baking and decorating cakes for birthdays and events as a job, until in 2016 a client approached her with a very special order: she wanted a giant cake shaped like a rhinoceros, which would be part of a campaign for the conservation of her country's animals. It turned out so well that Dorothy continued with that line of work, creating the most amazing giant cakes of native animals. As you can see in the photos below, there's everything: elephants, lions, ostriches, and giraffes.
Of course, the talent of this artist doesn't begin or end with the little animals; among her enormous cakes you can find a woman in a bathtub, a dancer, and a Hindu goddess, among other things.
