The return of Virtual Boy, Nintendo's worst console, is now possible thanks to a Reddit user who developed an emulator for the Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard VR headsets.
More than two decades ago, Nintendo released Virtual Boy, one of the company's most failed consoles both on a technological and commercial level. But that hasn't stopped users from surprising us with emulators and games, such as Bound High or the adaptation of Street Fighter II on Virtual Boy.
How to Play Virtual Boy Games on VR
To get it working, all you need is an Android smartphone, either of the two VR headsets mentioned above, a ROM file for the game you want to play, and the RetroArch app to emulate the games.

The video shows Virtual Boy Wario Land, one of the best games for the console, very similar to Super Mario Land from 1989, which includes some very interesting effects thanks to its platform design, such as special blocks placed in certain spots on the stage that send Wario with a jump to the background, allowing you to play on two different view planes, with multiple detailed 3D effects.
If you don't like the characteristic red color of Virtual Boy games, you can adjust the shading to grayscale to avoid headaches. As The-King-of-Spain details: "The added depth doesn't seem to add anything special to the game's development, although it's great to see Virtual Boy games in all their stereoscopic glory."
The app works very well and is an excellent opportunity for those curious to discover the small catalog of games this poor console had in its short lifespan.
