…what do you have there? Did you find a file? Let me see… oh. I suppose Grandma wasn't enough, right? Any fears you'd like to share about parks and fairs? Horrible clowns or a weird-looking employee that terrified you as a child? Because if you want to know more about SCP-823… all that will seem trivial. Rarely has the Foundation found a place where death settled so deeply. And believe me when I tell you they were not peaceful deaths.
The Red Zone
It seems your version of the file is heavily censored. I'm afraid I can't shed much light on some details. Not even I know the location of that damned place, but the Foundation has a lot of firepower stationed there. Never fewer than six elements, several of them highly trained snipers. There is an exclusion zone within SCP-823… yes, that's the “Red Zone” the file talks about. Personnel must obey an additional perimeter around it, about twenty meters as a precaution. And anything that enters the Red Zone will be shot dead by the snipers. No matter if it's a lost civilian, a Foundation member, or a wild animal. If it enters, it doesn't come out.
The real danger arises when the beeps and music start to sound. Something or someone in the Red Zone is responsible for them. Agents are ordered to use hearing protection and retreat to a two-kilometer perimeter, beyond the Yellow Zone. Sound is the main line of defense there. The Foundation decided to limit communication equipment to the minimum to avoid interference. If anyone manages to smuggle in a music player, they won't have a good time.
I suppose you want to know about “Bloody Sunday”, right? SCP-823 always had a history of strange accidents and very violent deaths… but that Sunday they decided that no one should return. 231 dead and 7 injured. Something woke up in that hellish park. It did it in a big way, twisted and out of control.
A couple in the Tunnel of Love ended up fused at various points, as if the flesh were clay. The subject in the hippo costume died suffocated… the stuffing of the suit invaded his mouth, trachea and lungs. The roller coaster? 15 decapitated, always in groups of two, starting from the end. The missing victim suffered a 15-meter fall. Broken neck, head crushed. One of the survivors was found in the House of Mirrors. His left leg appeared hanging from the ceiling, by its tendons. The left arm was five meters from the torso. The right leg had been partially devoured by someone called “Subject 79”. The right arm... they never found it.
The Foundation didn't delay sending Rho-71. Their objective was to investigate “cause or location”, and they learned both the hard way. Forensic analysis of three agents determined suicide as cause of death. Rho-71's commander… penetrated his own left eye until death. One agent took the trouble to disassemble his ammunition, one bullet at a time, to eat the gunpowder. Another was found with a broken jaw. All the missing teeth were in his lungs and trachea. Rho-71 lost 50 percent of its team in SCP-823.
What are they going to do? For now… nothing. The Council rejected the request to bomb and reduce the place to dust. Why? Too many civilians nearby, impossibility of covering the event adequately, and the fact of not knowing what the hell is in there. But they'll have to change their position sooner or later. You see, the Red Zone... is growing.
