Mobile apps are supposed to offer some utility or at least a minimum of entertainment; otherwise, nobody would install them. But that hasn't stopped the development of some truly bizarre projects that, one way or another, have been downloaded thousands of times. Today we're going to look at five Android-compatible examples. Some are practically abandonware, but others still receive updates...
If there's one thing we can say with certainty about every mobile app store, it's that the vast majority of its applications are of poor quality. Android, iOS, Fire OS, Windows Mobile/Phone... none of them escapes that reality. Of course, some apps have enormous potential but suffer from a lack of promotion and the effects of the 'noise' generated by millions of terrible apps. At the same time, app stores can be seen as a 'terra incognita.' Even the people in charge probably don't know exactly what's inside, a detail that malware creators try to take full advantage. Now, that ignorance also gives rise to some very strange applications. Honestly, I can't imagine what the developers were thinking when they made them, but I need to share this madness. Here are five examples, compatible with Android:
Send Me To Heaven
Not for the faint of heart. Technically, Send Me To Heaven is a game, but its goal is to throw your smartphone into the air as high as possible. The distance becomes your score, and a global leaderboard lets you share it with the world. It has at least a hundred thousand installations, and the top records exceed 40 meters... which essentially turns your smartphone into a projectile. Try not to hurt anyone. (Download)
Pimple Popper
Legend has it that certain YouTube searches lead you to channels full of surgical procedures showing the removal of papules, pustules, blackheads, and other small horrors of the skin. Pimple Popper is something like a simulator: Several faces, little time, and many pimples to pop. It has millions of installations, hasn't received updates in two years, and the comments say it all. RunPee
If there's an app with the label 'strange' and huge utility at the same time, this is it: RunPee recommends moments in a movie that aren't crucial or particularly exciting, and we use them to go to the bathroom. The only downside is that it requires spoilers, but it includes a timer that vibrates your smartphone a few moments before each suggested interval. Its last update was in July, and it has excellent reviews. (Download)
PooLog
PooLog is just one of thousands of examples that fall into the abyss of abandonware in the Google store, but it has a rather noble mission: To assist the user in documenting their intestinal activity, so to speak. It comes with a chart to better visualize your visits to the throne, and a small quiz game. In an ideal world, PooLog would be a great companion to RunPee. It's a shame its creator vanished into thin air. (Download)
Paper Racing
Since we've fully embraced the scatological theme (I think I'm 'projecting' something there), I want to close the list with Paper Racing. What's the reason cats go crazy over toilet paper rolls? Why should only they have that kind of fun? Paper Racing gives us a virtual toilet paper roll, and whoever finishes it fastest wins. Yes, that's all. Really. I think it's a good idea to stop here for today. Personally, I recommend using an old smartphone with Android Gingerbread or Honeycomb to get the best compatibility.
