In the early 1970s, Model Productions Corporation introduced Zingers!, a line of caricature cars featuring huge rear wheels and giant engines mounted in impossible positions. The extravagance of these vehicles did not go unnoticed, especially by one of the era's most important promoters, Bob Larivee Sr., who ordered life-size replicas.
Larivee naturally sought the best talent in the custom car world. The truck, the Volkswagen, and the Corvette were handled by Styline Customs, the same team that had designed the famous Red Baron. The buggy was a creation of Steve Tansy, another well-known name in the circuit. From a technical standpoint, the Zingers! were built at half scale, but they used real engines with no reduction gearing.
