The Thermalright TR-KG750 is a defensible budget power supply, not a quiet or generously engineered one. Its 750W output, ATX 3.1 support, PCIe 5.1 connectivity, native 12V-2x6 cable and acceptable electrical behavior make it feature-current. The compromises appear under sustained load: the fan runs continuously, noise reaches almost 51 dB(A) at 750W in a 25°C test, and the primary heatsink exceeds 100°C in a demanding approximately 45°C test.
That makes the TR-KG750 a reasonable fit when the budget is tight and acoustic performance is secondary. If you are building a quiet PC, running sustained high loads or prioritizing extensive component transparency, its appeal drops quickly.
The short verdict: what the TR-KG750 gets right and wrong
The TR-KG750 gets the fundamentals right. It is a fully modular ATX supply rated for 750W, with the entire 750W available on its +12V rail at 62.5A. It supports ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1, includes a native 12V-2x6 connection for modern graphics cards, and carries a five-year warranty.
Its measured electrical results are broadly acceptable: regulation stayed within 1.8% on the tested rails, ripple remained below the stated ATX limits, and the tested protection circuits operated correctly. Over-power protection activated at approximately 1005W, or 134% of the rated output.
The catch is that this is a price-led design. The 120 mm sleeve-bearing fan never stops, efficiency clears the 80 PLUS Gold thresholds by only a small margin at 115 VAC, and the thermal behavior becomes uncomfortable in the hot test. The TR-KG750 works; it simply does not disguise where the savings were made.
Specifications, connectors and physical design
Thermalright lists the TR-KG750 as a standard ATX power supply measuring 150 × 86 × 140 mm, with a stated tolerance of ±5 mm. It accepts 100–240 VAC input at 50–60 Hz and is rated for an operating temperature of 0–40°C.
The cable set is fully modular and includes:

What the HKC platform reveals inside
The reviewed unit uses an HKC HKCMAX-750 platform, with a board marked ATX32 Main BD Rev1.2. Its topology is a half-bridge LLC design with DC-to-DC conversion for the minor rails. A 450V/560 µF 105°C Nichicon bulk capacitor is present on the primary side.
The secondary side includes Teapo and NICON-branded parts. The component description does not support treating the complete capacitor set as Japanese, even though the bulk capacitor is identified as genuine Nichicon. That distinction matters: one named capacitor is not the same thing as a fully documented capacitor platform.
The teardown also identifies a Yate Loon D12SH-12 sleeve-bearing fan rated at 12V and 0.30A. The fan's continuous operation is central to the experience of using this PSU: there is no fanless mode to keep a lightly loaded system silent.
Efficiency and noise under load
At 115 VAC and 25°C, efficiency measured 87.2% at 20% load, 90.3% at 50% load and 87.9% at full load. Those results clear the 80 PLUS Gold thresholds by 0.2, 0.3 and 0.9 percentage points respectively. In other words, the certification is met in that test, but the margin is narrow.
The 230 VAC cold test produced a 89.5% average efficiency and a 91.2% peak. At full load, efficiency was 89.2% at 230 VAC and 87.9% at 115 VAC in the cold test.
Noise is the more obvious weakness:

The approximately 45°C test was conducted 5°C above the official 40°C operating-temperature rating. Its lower full-load efficiency and more than 100°C heatsink therefore describe thermal margin under an unusually demanding condition, not proof that the 80 PLUS certification is invalid. Still, the result is useful: warmer surroundings and sustained load push the TR-KG750 into loud, hot territory.
Regulation, ripple, temperature and protection
The electrical measurements are considerably less worrying than the acoustics. Between 20% and 100% load, regulation measured 1.2% on 3.3V, 1.4% on 5V and 1.8% on 12V. At 12V, the measured output moved from 12.11V at 151.5W to 11.89V at 744.5W.
At full load, ripple measured 62 mV on 12V, 34 mV on 3.3V and 38 mV on 5V. Those figures remain below the stated ATX limits of 120 mV for 12V and 50 mV for the minor rails.
Protection testing also produced a reassuring result. Over-power protection triggered at approximately 1005W, equal to 134% of the 750W rating, and the tested OCP, OPP, OVP, SCP and other protection mechanisms operated correctly. The unit did not shut down during the hotbox load sequence.
So, is the TR-KG750 a good PSU? It is electrically serviceable, but it is not a premium implementation. The measurements show acceptable regulation, ripple and protection behavior alongside clear acoustic and thermal compromises.
Is 750W enough for a modern gaming PC?
It depends on the exact CPU, graphics card, transient behavior and the graphics-card manufacturer's recommendation. The TR-KG750 provides 750W on its 12V rail and includes a native 12V-2x6 connector, but those facts do not establish suitability for every GPU or complete gaming system.
The practical rule is simple: check the power recommendation for the exact graphics card, account for the processor and other components, and leave sensible headroom. The TR-KG750's connector set is current; the right wattage still depends on the system attached to it.
Is spending more worthwhile?
A higher-priced alternative such as the Cooler Master MWE Gold 750 V4 offers a ten-year warranty compared with the TR-KG750's five years. The comparison also favors the Cooler Master unit for quieter operation, tighter regulation and cooler secondary-side behavior, while the Thermalright's argument is its lower purchase cost and modern connectivity.
That is the real decision rather than a spec-sheet tug-of-war:
- Choose the TR-KG750 when the budget is constrained, the system will not sit near full load for long periods and fan noise is not a major concern.
- Spend more when the PC will sit beside you, sustained workloads are common or a longer warranty matters.
- Do not treat the 80 PLUS Gold badge alone as a guarantee of quiet operation, generous thermal margin or premium component selection.
Who should buy it—and who should skip it
The TR-KG750 makes sense for a cost-focused build that needs current GPU connectivity without stepping down to a basic, non-modular design. Its electrical measurements and protection behavior are good enough to keep it in consideration, and its five-year warranty is a meaningful part of the value proposition.
Skip it for a silent PC, a workstation expected to sustain heavy loads or a build where component documentation is a priority. The continuously running sleeve-bearing fan, almost 51 dB(A) cold full-load noise and 58 dB(A) hot full-load noise are not minor footnotes. They define the character of the unit.
Bottom line: the Thermalright TR-KG750 is a feature-current 750W PSU for buyers who want modern connectivity at a budget-oriented price and can tolerate noise. Its electrical behavior is acceptable, but heat, acoustics and limited component transparency keep it from being the easy recommendation for a refined or quiet system.
