The Oscars are behind us, and with the change of season come new trailers for every screen. While we've already seen some projects during the week, the truth is that several were left for later, so it's more effective to put them all in the same package. Some trailers mark long-awaited returns, but there are also a couple of surprises…
House of the Dragon: Black vs. Green
The folks at Max have thought this through quite well: Rhaenyra and Aegon have some things to resolve, among them the fate of the Seven Kingdoms, and with two different trailers, the audience will have to choose their side. Judging by the number of views, the Black Queen already has a significant lead… (June 16)
Star Wars: The Acolyte
Ki-Adi-Mundi (this guy) declared forcefully in The Phantom Menace that the Sith had been extinct a millennium ago. Now, The Acolyte takes us to approximately 132 BBY, the final stretch of the High Republic… and unless I'm going blind, that lightsaber at the end is red. Therefore, the only way to reconcile the canon is… that all the Jedi involved end up dead. Yes, I'm definitely going to watch this. (June 4)
The Penguin
The version of the Penguin we saw in "The Batman" was inspired by the character of Fredo Corleone, but this teaser suggests Oswald Cobblepot will finally unleash his ambition. The DC universe is unquestionably fertile ground for gangster stories, however... I still can't believe that guy is Colin Farrell. (Second half of 2024)
The Fall Guy
Agent K, also known as Ken (...) takes on the role of Colt Seavers, an aging stunt coordinator who ends up investigating the disappearance of the main star, only to help his ex-girlfriend, who is trying to finish her first movie. This is Ryan Gosling's return to the big screen after Barbie, and everything suggests he feels very comfortable with comedies... (May 3)
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
If there's one thing Hollywood has taught us, it's that there's no expiration date for sequels. Beetlejuice is from '88, so Winona Ryder was... 16, 17? Beetlejuice Beetlejuice not only confirms the return of Ryder, Keaton, and O'Hara, but also introduces some new faces to the franchise, among which Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe stand out. Humane
The world has gone to hell, absolute ecological catastrophe, and the only way to survive is that 20 percent of humanity must die voluntarily. A family's parents decide to "participate", and she regrets it at the last moment. The problem is that the authorities will come looking for two bodies, and the rules are the same for everyone, meaning... one of their children must die. (April 26)
In a Violent Nature
Reverse horror isn't only in video games, and sometimes it's a breath of fresh air. In a Violent Nature takes the classic dynamic of "indestructible killer murdering teenagers in the woods", but turns it completely around, and makes us see the story from the perspective of the killer, Johnny. Some talk about "environmental slasher", slow and precise, almost like a documentary. (May 31)
Bonus track: The First Omen
Okay, technically the trailer came out more than a week ago, and all we have now is a 30-second teaser, but the first thing we wonder is... where is the jackal? Some of us remember Damien's origin very well in the first movie, but we must admit that the idea of a conspiracy inside the church to guarantee the arrival of the Antichrist and protect the status quo is... interesting.
