They're irresistible, we can't deny it. Any app that promises to transform our portraits into famous characters or follow a specific animation style automatically blows up overnight. Today it's the turn of Voilà AI Artist, which converts your photos into a Pixar character, Renaissance paintings, caricatures, and more.
The underlying question is simply Why? Why do we love these apps? Why do we throw ourselves into the arms of a strange algorithm with hilarious results? Personally, I think these apps manage to eliminate the intimidating profile of this technology. Artificial intelligence becomes clay for users, who modify and transform it with one or two taps on their screens.

Previously we've talked about FaceApp, the Simpsons-style faces of ToonMe, and the deepfakes of Reface App. Today we run into Voilà AI Artist, available for both iOS and Android. What does it offer? Voilà AI Artist has a total of four presets: 3D Cartoon, which is the mode to 'get closer' to Pixar designs, Renaissance for creating Renaissance portraits, 2D Cartoon, in line with classic drawings, and Caricature, which transforms faces into illustrations. The app will ask permission to activate the device's camera or access our photos, but there is an alternative, and that is using photos of celebrities.
That's right, if you want to see Voilà AI Artist's performance before using your own photos, tap the Celebrities button and search for your favorite artist or athlete, or take advantage of the tag cloud that the app enables. Within each mode you'll find additional presets, and the possibility of replacing the background with a solid color or other motifs (forest, fantasy, sci-fi, etc.).
How good is Voilà AI Artist? That basically depends on you. During our tests it made some interesting transformations, and others left a lot to be desired. The only common point is the advertising: with each conversion, Voilà AI Artist will show ads, and the images will have a small watermark. To eliminate all that you have to switch to the Pro edition, based on subscriptions.
