For more than ten years, Transmission has held a privileged position among Linux and OS X versions as the go-to BitTorrent client, but if there is an asterisk in its record, it is the lack of an official build compatible with Windows. The new edition has not yet been presented on the official site; however, the download server already has Transmission 2.92 installers in 32 and 64 bits.
The competition among Windows-compatible BitTorrent clients is simply enormous. The open source movement has been a great contributor with very high-quality projects, but if there is one player we would love to see in the field, it is Transmission. More than ten years have passed since its release, and in that time it has found a dedicated place among multiple Linux distros, and we can say something similar about OS X. The official Transmission page has not undergone any changes beyond the warning for OS X users to update to the build 2.92 due to a malware infection, but if we explore the download options directly from its server, we will see that Transmission already has official installers for Windows.
The confirmation
The confirmation came through Mike Gelfand, a Transmission developer responsible for its transition to Windows. After a conversation with Jordan Lee, one of the main developers of Transmission in its original editions, they concluded that there was enough demand for Transmission on Windows (in fact, there are unofficial forks), and after several months of work, we have this variant of the client. From a technical standpoint, Transmission for Windows should be considered a “project in progress”, but we cannot call it beta either. The client is very stable, and all essential options are there.
Is it worth switching?
Now, the big question: Is it worth switching clients? Personally, I feel very comfortable with qBittorrent, but I admit that Transmission has a “cleaner” interface, and performance is exactly the same when it comes to downloads. Give it a try, and tell us how it went in the comments.
