Bloomberg reported on October 15, 2026, that TSMC CEO C. C. Wei confirmed ongoing discussions about possible cooperation with Terafab and said any fab in an alliance would have to be run by TSMC. Bloomberg’s report puts operating control at the center of the talks.
Who would run the fab?
Wei’s condition differs from Elon Musk’s previously reported position: Bloomberg said Musk had said his companies would build and run Terafab. The project is planned for Texas and is intended to supply chips to Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceXAI. Bloomberg also reported that Intel is helping develop technology intended for Terafab.
NeoTeo previously covered Musk’s reported preliminary talks with TSMC. Wei’s statement adds an operating condition to those discussions.
What Wei’s general fab timeline covers
A wafer fab is a factory where silicon wafers are processed to make chips. In an October 4 report, TaiwanPlus News attributed to Wei a general estimate of two to three years to build a new wafer fab, followed by another one to two years to increase production capacity. Those figures describe a general construction and ramp-up sequence.
