On one hand, we have platforms dedicated to live television such as Pluto TV and Runtime, which we've discussed recently. On the other hand, there is a large number of free DTT links and premium services scattered across the web. The portal TV Online gathers the best live television signals for Spanish territory, acting as a kind of index so you can access them easily.
In another episode of "You can definitely cut the cord to save a few euros," we return to the particular world of free DTT. Previously we've mentioned Tivify, Diretele, which combines links for Spain and Mexico, and TDTChannels, which includes an Android-compatible app. These services save us the headache of hunting individual broadcast addresses, and they also handle fixing any high-profile changes. Today we'd like to add the portal TV Online to the mix, which plays a similar role for Spanish live television.
TV Online: A Directory of Live TV Links for Spain
From a technical perspective, TV Online is similar to Diretele, although its interface isn't as polished. Its main categories are divided into DTT/General, News, Sports, Regional TV, and Children's, but unfortunately they don't bother to separate 100% free signals from premium ones (or rather, those that require special credentials).
When you click on one of its entries, generally two things happen: either the stream starts playing, or it shares a redirect link to take you to the original site. This is normal for signals with players that don't support embedding (or were blocked on purpose), but sometimes it's just a matter of trying again later.
Personally, I think TV Online will serve you better as a backup site, in case the main alternatives don't work or have lost connectivity. In any case, free live television over the Internet is a moving target, and we definitely need solutions like TV Online to keep track of it.
