Installing a server and sharing content between multiple systems is something within reach of many, however, for some time the desire to simplify even more the concept of multimedia server has been installed, also favoring mobile devices. The U+ project not only seeks to create an accessory capable of meeting that requirement, but will also have additional functions, among which an emergency charger stands out.
The last unexpected maintenance session my computer received was a couple of hours ago. Temperature alarms appeared out of nowhere, and a little extra load on the processor shut it down immediately. All I needed was a simple change of silicone grease (read thermal paste), and within fifteen minutes it was purring again. This is a simple adjustment without a doubt, but any other user would have had the computer stopped for days, waiting for someone else to solve the problem. The same applies to things like setting up a router (something Google wants to solve with its new OnHub), or installing a multimedia server. These are relatively simple things for the advanced user... but they must be even simpler for the rest.
The U+ in detail
In the case of the multimedia server, a new accessory that has been circulating on the Web these days goes by the name U+. The responsible company, BWA, tells us about a multi-function device that combines local content distribution with external backups and an emergency charger. The U+ supports a maximum of five simultaneous connections, can interact with smartphones, tablets and PCs without distinction, will have a dedicated app, is definitely portable (as big as an iPhone), and its internal battery can recharge other devices.
A lack of information
The only problem with U+ is that we found it in a true vacuum of additional information. The official page confirms the launch of a Kickstarter campaign within a few days, but there are no technical data, spec lists, presentation videos or anything like that. The only thing we have so far is a new Facebook profile that has a small production of photos (three, to be precise) about the preparation of the video that will be destined for the crowdfunding campaign. The concept of a universal device aimed at providing content and energy for our mobile devices is interesting, but if we want to know more, we will be forced to wait for its debut on Kickstarter.
