Unfortunately, users are forced to become legal experts to check if they can use an image in their projects. The maze of copyright and licenses becomes impossible to navigate in record time; however, there are some alternatives that guarantee free and unrestricted use of the material without major setbacks. One of those alternatives is UnDraw, a website full of open source vector illustrations and drawings with customizable colors.
Want to use an image in a local or online project? Then you'd better verify its legal condition. If we look at what happens on YouTube with audio (dystopian copyright strikes for six or seven seconds), the situation with photographs, icons, and illustrations is equally complex.
Fortunately, many artists (professionals and enthusiasts alike) have recognized the problem and shared on the Web a wide variety of images that nip any conflict in the bud. Katerina Limpitsouni is one of those artists, and her portal UnDraw serves as a starting point to download a large number of free and open vector illustrations.

UnDraw does not require any kind of registration or anything like that. You can click the Browse Now button to start exploring, or enter one of its two categories: Illustrations and Handcrafts. The search function will help you refine results, although you'll need to use English expressions for greater precision. Next to the search button there is a color palette to customize the illustrations. You can select the color manually, or enter its HEX equivalent (personally, I prefer this method).
The Handcrafts section contains "lightweight alternatives" to the illustrations, more focused on objects, but no less interesting. When it comes to downloading content, both categories work the same: the options are SVG for your projects, or a PNG if the plan is to share on blogs or social media. If you want access to secondary tools and a new pack of illustrations (which is on the way), the Plus version of UnDraw costs $49 for 12 months.
Finally, UnDraw's license explains that its illustrations can be downloaded, used, and modified in personal and commercial projects, without the need for authorization or attribution. The only thing it doesn't allow is collecting the images, creating packages, reselling them, and using them to create a competing platform.
