When we read something lengthy on our computer in any word processor and we want to search for a phrase to read a specific paragraph, we use the search tool and find the phrase or word in seconds. But when we watch a long video on YouTube and we want to go to a specific minute on the timeline, we don't have that option and we have to watch the whole video to find the part we're looking for.
But there is an extension that works in Google Chrome called Video Search for YouTube that allows us to search for textual content in any YouTube video. Thanks to the add-on, you will be able to find the exact moment in that video of long duration that you are watching.
How to use Video Search for YouTube
The first thing you have to do is install Video Search for YouTube. Then you have to open a tab with YouTube and go to a video. At that point, you will need to go to the bottom of the video and look for the magnifying glass icon that is next to the subtitles icon.
By clicking on the magnifying glass, a pop-up window will appear that gives you the possibility to enter a phrase or word you want to search for in the video. After typing the term, the extension will show you the complete phrase followed by the exact minute where that phrase is found in the video. By clicking on the term, the add-on will automatically take you to the moment where the phrase you are looking for is said.
The platform is ideal for video tutorials, lectures, interviews, podcast and in videos where there is a lot of dialogue. On the other hand, in videos with soundtrack, abstract or artistic, it won't be of much help.
The developers of the project assure that search data is not stored in any database of the extension. The add-on is completely free and requires no configuration.
