It's a B-class horror film, with strong ties to its 80s counterparts. Had it been released in that era, it would now be a cult classic. It has everything necessary: charismatic characters, a terrifying legend, an interesting monster, and a well-rounded plot. It was a box office record on its release, as it went straight to drive-in theaters in the United States, an option chosen due to the pandemic that afflicts humanity. And yes, it's an ideal movie for drive-ins. Now, is it a good movie? I really liked it, otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. But I fear that contemporary horror purists won't find the taste for it, as it's a film that doesn't take itself too seriously and doesn't produce a single scare (not even the "jump scares" many have become accustomed to). It's genre cinema, pure and hard, with all that that means. It mixes things from "Rear Window" with touches of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Fright Night". In short, if you love any of its sources of inspiration, you'll love this movie too. Otherwise, just let it pass.
