Forty years after its launch, the Voyager program remains active in its mission to study the solar system. And to celebrate these notable achievements, filmmaker Santiago Menghini has created an impressive short film titled Voyagers, which highlights the journeys through the solar system of the Voyager space probe.
The Voyager Program
Launched in 1977, NASA's Voyager program consists of two space probes (Voyager 1 and Voyager 2) sent to study the solar system environment. Among its most notable achievements, we can mention that Voyager 1 traveled beyond Jupiter and Saturn, discovering the volcanic activity of Io and the thick atmosphere of Titan, and taking the famous Pale Blue Dot photograph at a distance of 6 billion kilometers from Earth in 1990. Voyager 2, although not as famous as its twin, is the only space probe to fly by Uranus and Neptune. Surprisingly, after all these years, both probes remain active in their mission to deliver findings.
The Short Film
To celebrate these notable achievements, filmmaker Santiago Menghini has created an impressive short film as a tribute titled Voyagers, which highlights the journeys through the solar system of the Voyager space probe. The documentary is a reminder of the achievements in space exploration through the ambitious Voyager program, where you can see a combination of real photographs taken from the missions and sounds of the plasma frequencies of the planets received by Voyager 1 and Voyager 2.
The short film manages to compress a planetary expedition that spans, at the time of its release, almost four decades into just fifteen minutes, creating an experience that feels as close to traveling through space as you could expect to feel from the comfort of your own home (or wherever you are watching the video).
