Who hasn't dreamed of throwing a Kamehameha with their own hands? Or piloting an EVA? Well, we're getting closer. In Japan, a tech fair called VR Zone Project I Can is currently showcasing several playable prototypes. Here at NeoTeo, we tell you about the main attractions.
The VR Zone Shinjuku tech fair, located in a well-known shopping center in Japan, has been running a series of prototypes and demos of well-known games. So far, only a few privileged people have been able to try these arcades created by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. but as of today it opens to the public. That said, if you're reading this and you're in Japan, we regret to inform you that you had to reserve your spot last June 13.
Among the 15 activities you can experience at VR Zone, which include riding a bike with wings or escaping from a dinosaur, these are the most relevant:
- Dragon Ball VR “Master the Kamehameha”
- Evangelion VR “The Throne of Souls”
- Ghost in the Shell Arise: Stealth Hounds
- MARIO KART ARCADE GP VR
The possibilities that some developers bring us year after year with the use of both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are increasing. The current situation of both devices is still in full development, with a small catalog from both companies and a still somewhat high cost. Also worth noting is that Oculus is making significant price cuts due to the shortage of its catalog and the excessive price for consumers, and it will also bring to market a cheaper version of the headset, though with wireless support.
We still don't know if these fascinating experiences will reach the West, at least in the short term. What we do know is that virtual reality is advancing by leaps and bounds and it won't be long before we can enjoy these attractions.
