The Shootist (1976)

John Wayne had cancer when he played a gunslinger who also had cancer and was searching for a dignified, painless death. That alone should be enough reason to see this western directed by Don Siegel (Dirty Harry, Invasion of the Body Snatchers). But if we add exquisite performances and an epic rarely told in the genre, The Shootist becomes essential.
