The 1960s were an era that sought to challenge the senses of the audience, and on many occasions that search scandalized the most conservative groups in society. That places us in the territory of Weird, a publication under the wing of Eerie Publications that ran from 1966 to 1981. The provocative covers of Weird and the content of its stories became a sort of “video nasty” in comic form, without filter or moderation.
Of course, Weird was not the only publication of its kind, but today we can say with some certainty that its direct competitors presented a “softer” art, if you will. That never happened with Weird, which for fifteen years showed decapitations, amputated women, corpses of all kinds, macabre operating tables, flesh-eating monsters, and more.
