On Oct. 9, 2026, Yandex said a drone attack had hit its data center in Kaluga that morning, putting part of the facility’s infrastructure out of service. The statement followed a separate attack at Sasovo on Oct. 8, when Yandex said its data center was seriously damaged and completely shut down. Reports described service problems after the two incidents.

Two Yandex data centers were hit on separate days

Yandex placed the Sasovo attack in the Ryazan region on the night of Oct. 7–8. In its Oct. 9 statement, the company said the facility had been seriously damaged and completely shut down. It said the Kaluga site was attacked the following morning and that part of its infrastructure was out of service. Yandex also said no employees were hurt at either location.

The company said it was assessing the facilities and could not estimate when equipment would return to service. NeoTeo’s earlier report on the Sasovo incident covered the first attack; the Kaluga strike made this a two-site story.

Sasovo’s reported connection to YandexGPT

Two of Yandex’s three supercomputers used to train YandexGPT were reportedly housed at Sasovo. Yandex’s statement said the data center was shut down but did not describe the condition of those systems.

For one Yandex Cloud customer, the immediate concern was access to a backup. Alexander Savitsky, founder of the dating app Pulse, said the app could not access a backup database and that he had no confirmation of data loss.

Service disruptions reached beyond Yandex

Reports described problems affecting Yandex Cloud and third-party services, including T-Bank, Russian Railways and Ivi. Yandex said its teams were working to keep services running and assist affected users and customers. The reported disruptions involved particular services; the company’s statement described the condition of its facilities separately.

What Yandex and Ukraine’s president said

Yandex confirmed drone attacks but did not identify who launched the drone that struck Sasovo. Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly characterized a strike on a data center as a response to Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.
