On Oct. 8, 2026, Yandex said a fire following a drone attack affected part of its data center’s infrastructure in Sasovo, Russia, halted operations at the facility and caused no casualties. The attack was attributed to Ukrainian drones, though Ukraine had not confirmed responsibility as of Oct. 8.

This incident is separate from the earlier report on Russia’s Defense Ministry claim that Geran drones struck four Ukrainian data centers.

Yandex said the fire halted operations

Mobile footage shows flames and thick smoke near an industrial building in Sasovo.

Yandex said the fire affected part of the Sasovo facility’s infrastructure and that data-center operations had stopped. The company also warned that some Yandex services might be unavailable.

The site also houses Sasta’s factory

The Sasovo industrial site is shared with Sasta’s machine-tool factory. The intended target—Yandex’s data center, the factory, or both—was unclear.

A separate Yandex Cloud power-failure entry

Separately, Yandex Cloud’s status page logged a power failure in availability zone ru-central1-b beginning Oct. 7, 2026, at 22:31:24 UTC.

Two Yandex supercomputers were reported at Sasovo

Chervonenkis and Lyapunov were reported at the site. Yandex had not disclosed whether the fire affected either system.
