A Fan Film About the Dark Lord
While J.K. Rowling is busy working on the second film in her new Fantastic Beasts trilogy, a group of fans presents a film about the origins of Harry Potter's villain: the young Voldemort. Tryangle Films has released the first trailer for Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, a high-production (and non-profit) film set in the Harry Potter universe. According to the synopsis, it is inspired by the events of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, detailing how Tom Riddle collected the Horcruxes and amassed power... to better understand the man who could not kill the Boy Who Lived.
The Story and Its Characters
On the official site, the film is described as follows: "What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really happened at Hogwarts when he returned? There are some clues in the books that have not been transposed at all in the films, but much has not been spoken. This is the story we want to tell: the rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first death." The film follows the point of view of Gryffindor's heir, Grisha McLaggen, as she investigates Riddle's rise to power and tries to put an end to it before it's too late.
Release and Production
The production company is raising funds to complete the short, which it says will come out in October (assuming they raise the funds). In a statement to BuzzFeed, the production company says they have an agreement with Warner Bros. to release it on YouTube, although Warner Bros. hasn't confirmed anything so far. The short features performances by Stefano Rossi (Tom Riddle) and Maddalena Orcali (Grisha McLaggen), among other actors. Produced by Tryangle Films and directed by Gianmaria Pezzato, Voldemort: Origins of the Heir will premiere via YouTube in October 2017.
