It's been a year since Adobe introduced Photoshop Fix for iOS. The idea of retouching photos on a mobile device quickly and easily attracts millions of users, but its biggest problem was the lack of an build compatible with Android. Last Tuesday, Adobe finally published Photoshop Fix on the Google Play Store, and anyone interested can download it for free, as long as they have a device with Android 5.0 or higher.
Retouching images is as common as capturing them with a mobile device. The built-in lenses are not the best, and if we add the fact that very few users have advanced knowledge of photography, the possibility of correcting errors and applying filters dynamically is very tempting. In recent years, all kinds of apps with retouching features have appeared, but a smartphone's interface imposes some limits, as does the hardware inside. In other words, developers have to create mini versions of their graphics editors, and that is not always easy. In Adobe's case, the company took its time before introducing Photoshop Fix on iOS, and to that delay we must add more than a year to close the gap with Android.
Changes in lighting, contrast adjustments, repair functions, smoothing, cloning… it's all there. Technically speaking, Adobe Photoshop Fix is on par with its iOS sister, and the same goes for its strong point: selfies. Now, Photoshop Fix can edit images of objects and places like any other app, but its main tools are better tuned for selfies, especially when it comes to altering light and contrast. Still, Photoshop Fix doesn't have what we might call filters, and from what I've been able to verify, the app requires creating a free Adobe account.
The Android build is at a relatively early stage, so you might hit some rough edges along the way, but any user looking for a kind of middle ground between one-touch magic apps and full editors might find that in Photoshop Fix.
