We've seen plenty of custom cars in the past. One of the most recent examples was the TRUCKLA by Simone Giertz, but we've also known projects like the Ford Beatnik, and old concepts at the level of the Astra-Gnome. However, many enthusiasts and professionals in car modding often experiment with limousines, and that's how American Dream was born: a 30.5-meter long limousine with two engines and 26 wheels, a Jacuzzi, a golf green, a pool, and even a helipad at the back.
A Builder of Iconic Movie Cars
The name Jay Ohrberg might not be as well-known outside of car modding, but I can guarantee one thing: you've already come across his most important projects. Remember the General Lee? The Pink Panther car? Or KITT's "Super Pursuit Mode"? All of them were created by Jay Ohrberg, along with the Ford Gran Torino from Starsky & Hutch, and of course... the unforgettable DeLorean from Back to the Future.
American Dream: The Longest Limousine
However, his expertise extended far beyond film and television, and in 1992 he completed what would become the world's longest limousine: "American Dream". Built from two Cadillacs, American Dream reached 30.5 meters in length, which allowed it to enter the Guinness World Records without difficulty. The available information indicates that the limousine used two engines, 26 wheels (though most images suggest 24), and two drivers to simplify the process of going in reverse.
Luxuries on Wheels
Luxuries? Jacuzzi, king-size waterbed (obviously), a small green to improve your golf game, a pool, and the answer is no, your eyes don't deceive you: What appears in the background is a helicopter. American Dream carried its own helipad everywhere.
From Abandonment to Museum
Once its commercial adventure concluded, American Dream ended up abandoned in a lot in New Jersey. The accumulated damage was enormous, to the point that all restoration plans bit the dust. Only in 2014 did it find a place at the Autoseum Automotive Teaching Museum in New York, where students can practice advanced repairs.
