Apple announced an 8.5-inch OLED iPad mini with an A20 Pro chip on October 26, 2026. In the U.S., starting prices are $699 for Wi-Fi and $849 for Wi-Fi + Cellular. Apple set customer deliveries and retail availability to begin November 6.
Apple’s announcement sets the U.S. price and schedule
Apple scheduled preorders to begin October 28, with customer deliveries and retail availability starting November 6. The announcement sets those dates; it does not establish that deliveries or retail sales have begun.
Before Apple’s announcement, NeoTeo covered the OLED iPad mini as a rumor ahead of the company’s October 28 event. Apple has since announced the model as the iPad mini with A20 Pro.
What changes with the OLED display and A20 Pro
The OLED screen measures 8.5 inches diagonally, and Apple says the tablet keeps the previous model’s footprint with bezels 24% thinner. Buyers can choose 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage. Nano-texture glass, which Apple says reduces glare in bright settings, is an option on the 256GB and 512GB configurations.
Apple lists peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, full-screen brightness of 600 nits for SDR and HDR, and a minimum of 1 nit. These are different brightness measures: peak describes the top figure, while full-screen brightness applies across the display. Apple also lists a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
The A20 Pro uses a 2-nanometer process and is described with up to a 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU. Apple says the 512GB configuration has a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Its N1 chip supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. Cellular models add a C2 modem; Apple says its cellular data speeds can be up to 50% faster than the previous generation, depending on conditions and data plan.
How to read Apple’s performance claims
Apple reports up to 4.5× the AI performance, up to 2.7× the graphics performance and up to 60% faster multithreaded CPU performance than the previous generation. Those results come from Apple’s tests conducted in September 2026 using preproduction A20 Pro and production A17 Pro units. The CPU comparison uses the 6-core A20 Pro configuration, so the figures are Apple’s results under those stated test conditions.
IP67 and software-dependent display support
Apple rates the iPad mini IP67 after controlled laboratory testing at up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The company says resistance can decline with normal wear and is not permanent; liquid damage is not covered by warranty.
Apple says the iPad mini with A20 Pro supports extended-display mode with iPadOS 27.2. The feature lets the tablet use an external display as an extended workspace.
