Apple made the iOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3 developer betas available on November 3, 2026. Apple Developer’s notice confirms the operating-system betas; Infobae and TechCrunch reported that they include tests of two Apple Watch features, Live Rewind and Siri Recap.

The features handle conversation differently. Live Rewind displays a short text snippet after you deliberately activate it. Siri Recap is a separate, opt-in tool that makes high-level summaries.

Live Rewind is a deliberate rewind, not continuous transcription

9to5Mac host Fernando demonstrates Live Rewind and Siri Recap on an Apple Watch Ultra 4, including the beta settings and on-watch interfaces.

Apple says Live Rewind activates when you double-press the Digital Crown. It displays text from the previous 15 seconds of speech and does not continue transcribing in the background. Apple also says the text is not saved unless you ask Siri about it or save it in the Siri app.

Siri Recap, by contrast, takes notes on conversations when you choose to enable it and turns them into summaries, not word-for-word transcripts. You can schedule it by time or location, switch it on manually, and turn it on or off in Control Center. Apple describes all Audio Intelligence features as opt-in.

Activation signals and how long text remains

Apple says Live Rewind gives an audible chime, a full-screen animation, and a microphone indicator when activated. The chime plays even if the watch is on silent or headphones are connected. Unsaved Live Rewind text disappears about 30 seconds after the display dims. An unsaved Siri Recap summary is automatically deleted after seven days.

You can set up Live Rewind in the Watch app on iPhone, under Siri, by enabling “Double Click Digital Crown.” Siri Recap can also be managed in the Watch app and toggled through Control Center.

The chime and on-screen indicators make Live Rewind’s activation apparent to people nearby. For a separate discussion of the legal questions, see NeoTeo’s earlier coverage of eavesdropping-law questions around Apple Watch audio features.

Compatible watches, iPhones, and language

Apple lists Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 as compatible watches. The paired iPhone must be from the iPhone 16 or iPhone 17 families, including iPhone 17e, or be an iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, or iPhone Duo. Apple also lists Apple Intelligence and Siri AI (Beta) as requirements. At the features’ beta start, Apple listed English as the supported language.

Apple says the features are unavailable to users under 13. For users under 18 with a Child Account, a parent or guardian must enable access.

Apple’s account of audio processing

Apple says the features do not create audio recordings and that raw audio is processed in the S11 chip’s Secure Exclave and immediately deleted. Apple says Live Rewind speech recognition is processed on Apple Watch and iPhone. For Siri Recap, encrypted, condensed text is sent from iPhone to Private Cloud Compute to generate a summary.
