Many things have changed. Practices, habits, visits, outings. Places that were popular now remain empty. And in the middle are we, missing friends, meals, drinks, ambiences… sounds. The folks behind Maverick in Monterrey understand this, and as an alternative they offer I Miss My Bar, a site dedicated to playing the classic bar ambient sound in the background.
The power of sounds
There are people who simply cannot function without music. No matter how simple the task, there must be a background song, or directly in their heads. But something similar extends to common, casual sounds. For example, the TV or a radio left on. The Web didn't take long to understand this “need,” if we can call it that. The song of birds, falling rain, even forest sounds emerged as alternatives.
What's missing from that select group? Social gatherings. People talking. Spontaneous laughter. The clinking of glasses and goblets, an isolated horn reaching in from the street. That characteristic micro-universe of bars, pubs, and other similar establishments. How long has it been since you last visited one of those places? Is your favorite haunt still closed? Unfortunately we can't do anything to speed up time or bend new rules, but we can offer you the classic bar ambient sound, courtesy of Maverick in Monterrey.

The official name of the project is I Miss My Bar, and I think it hits the nail on the head. The total number of sounds we can combine amounts to seven: the bartender working, people talking, the full room, rain on the window, night ambience, drinks served, and street noises. What's the exact balance? Well, that depends entirely on you. Personally I left the “full room” muted, and adjusted the volume for the rest. The extra touch from I Miss My Bar is a weekly Spotify playlist, curated by Maverick.
Of course, the bar ambient sound enabled by I Miss My Bar will never be a complete replacement, nor does it intend to be. It's just a way to accompany all those who miss their favorite bars and need to return to them as soon as possible. Much patience… and enjoy.
