Doom 64 is an exclusive Nintendo 64 title that never received adaptations over time. But a dedicated fan of the game took on the effort to create a mod titled Brutal Doom 64 that looks great, and we show you the first minutes of the game in motion.
Released in 1997 for the Nintendo 64, Doom 64 puts you in control of the sole surviving space marine of your squad, who must stop the legions of demons resurrected by a mysterious entity known as the Mother Demon. The game is a spin-off of the Doom series, where the goal is to advance through thirty-two levels, fighting hordes of demons, collecting weapons and keys, and activating switches to reach the level exit, while the marine tries to survive the ambushes and deadly traps of the environment.
What Brutal Doom 64 Adds
Doom 64 is considered by many fans a cult classic of this first-person action saga created by id Software. And unlike what happened with the other entries in the series, the company never produced a new version of this title with improved graphics or high-definition visuals. But a dedicated fan of Doom 64 took on the effort to make a rather convincing mod that promises to improve the original game. Brutal Doom 64 adds everything that could not be included in the original Nintendo 64 version: special effects, particles, rays, gore, sounds, and more weapon and monster animations.
To carry out this work, the programmer Sergeant_Mark_IV used scenarios and character models from the GZDoom port of Doom 64. He also added a new map design and lighting effects that can be seen in the video. Currently, the game is in an alpha version and there are no downloads available to try. Brutal Doom 64 is being developed by Sergeant_Mark_IV and will be available on Windows and Linux. The game does not have a concrete release date, but an official trailer showing some of the new enemies and weapons will be coming soon.
