OpenAI’s customer story, published November 3, 2026, says Cisco combines network intelligence and telemetry with OpenAI models to support adaptive enterprise cybersecurity. Cisco describes correlating signals and distributing security controls across services and infrastructure. The companies are also exploring a separate effort called the Daybreak Defense Network with Cisco Cloud Control. OpenAI’s account attributes the approach and its intended benefits to Cisco.
How Cisco describes the approach
The system is meant to bring together network telemetry, security signals and observability data, which helps teams understand how activity across different parts of an environment may fit together. Cisco President and Chief Product Officer Jeetu Patel says signals that look harmless on their own can reveal a meaningful pattern when correlated.
Patel describes placing security controls across microservices, Kubernetes containers and clusters. Microservices are small services that work together within a larger application. OpenAI’s account says application-level controls can limit a service’s communications to the connections it needs, and that teams can isolate selected services while unaffected ones continue operating.
Daybreak Defense Network is still exploratory
OpenAI says Cisco and OpenAI are exploring how the Daybreak Defense Network could help triage exposure and apply controls in Cisco Cloud Control. The account does not describe a broad product rollout; the work is presented as an exploration.
Patel also attributes more efficient vulnerability discovery and patching, along with shorter investigation, response and remediation work, to Daybreak and GPT-6 Astra. He presents these as qualitative gains rather than quantified performance results.
Priorities for securing AI agents
Patel names three priorities for agent security: protect agents from malicious attacks, detect and intercept unintended behavior, and operate in near real time. These are Cisco’s stated priorities for securing agents, rather than a performance specification.
Safeguards named for the enterprise scenario
For this enterprise use case, OpenAI describes zero data retention, strict customer-data boundaries and verifiable isolation. The safeguards are presented in the context of the Cisco scenario.
