The first web pages were basic, of that there is no doubt. But technology improved massively over the years, and today we can access very advanced tools with a simple browser. In fact, there are projects out there that aim to reproduce operating system desktops, and beyond the occasional joke, they are truly impressive.
If the webapp concept is here to stay, can it be applied to an operating system? In general, all modern examples require some level of connectivity, but I'm referring to 100% online operation in a browser tab.
The Simone’s Computer portal helps us explore that possibility with a selection of websites designed as if they were operating system desktops. Most of their creators take the chance to share parodies, jokes, and memes, but the attention to detail left us speechless more than once.

Some of these projects have already been featured on NeoTeo, such as the Windows 11 simulator and the excellent Windows 96, but there are also others with a much more serious profile. For example, “9/11 Realtime” is a tool for teachers and researchers that reproduces live broadcasts before and after the attack on the Twin Towers.
On the other hand, Browzo just presents information about our equipment, Webamp is an almost complete reproduction of Winamp, Windows 1.0 is inspired by the first Windows made by Microsoft, and The Amiga Workbench Simulation takes us back to the environment of the iconic Commodore Amiga. It is likely that some links are down, but the site provides more than 150 of them. Finally, a detail: if you leave Simone’s Computer in the background, it will load its own screensaver, so don't be scared if you see spheres bouncing with a pirate emoji on the surface.
